Definition:
1. What is Wii remote
2. Infrared camera tracker
Fact:
1. At a suggested retail price US40, the Wii remote is an impressively cost-effective and capable platform for exploring interaction research
2. Wii remote's official spec are unpublished, however the global hacking community has collectively reversed-engineered a significant portion of technology information regarding its internal working.
3. API change rapidly
4. Why wii-remote?
a. rich level of input & output (need to find on this more)
b. ease of connectivity (Bluetooth)
c. the open development community has created the software libraries for connecting to a wii remote for nearly every major development platform
Method:
1. Existing system method:
- wii sensor bar doesn't contain sensor, rather it contains 2 groups of infrared LEDs - sees 2 groups & provides a laser pointer - style input method.
- the software transform the x,y coordinates dot pairs, a rotation & a distance..
2. Common wii game interaction - using controller as a pointer = selection, navigation, aiming, drawing, rotating & push-pull interaction
3. (-ve) less accuracy, however (+ve) constant visual feedback does not give significant impact of accuracy of the pointer since the experience is quite compelling.
4. wii remote as a motion tracker rather than a controller by making the wiimote stationary while let the IR emitters move
5. Hand and fingers can transmit a small amount of IR and need to be closed to the wiimote. Increase the system visibility by using reusable and removable retroreflective tags
6. Mid-air hand manipulation causes fatigue very rapidly, better used on more horizontal surfaces for productivity
7. Unintentional IR illuminator reflections can generate spurious tracking data, complicating retroreflecting markers' tracking.
